The summer blockbuster of 2018, Ocean’s 8 from Oscar-nominated director Gary Ross turned out to be a career-changing project for Anne Hathaway. Appearing in the movie with a star-studded cast led by Sandra Bullock, Hathaway recalled an incident that took place right before their shooting.
Recalling the first day of shooting right after the 2016 election, Anne Hathaway spoke about Hillary Clinton’s concession speech, which gravely impacted the movie. Stating how the women on set were emotionally affected by the speech, Hathaway shared the experience of working in a man’s world.
“My first day of shooting was the day after the 2016 election. We all got our hair and makeup done in the morning and then watched Hillary’s concession speech—and then cried, and then redid our hair and makeup, and then worked a 20-hour day. Because women are really tough.” Anne Hathaway shared with Elle.
Revealing the impact of Hilary Clinton’s speech in Ocean’s 8, Hathaway noted how it later opened her eyes to her position in the entertainment industry.

Getting the unusual but peaceful feeling of being surrounded by women, Hathaway recalled the thoughts she had. “I remember looking around going, Wait, why have I never been here before? Like, why has it taken this long into my career to have this many women on set?” the actress shared.
“I remember having a distinct feeling: Oh, this is what it’s like to be a man in Hollywood. Wherever they go, they’re in a pack; there’s so much ease in this.” Anne Hathaway mentioned.
Thus, being overpowered by the feeling Anne Hathaway mentioned how Ocean’s 8 changed her approach in the entertainment industry. “I just wanted more of it. I thought, I have to make this an intention in my career.” the actress shared. She further added, “To work with other women and to create opportunities for as many women to work together”.
