Tiger Woods goes right to work upon arrival at Augusta ahead of Masters appeared on www.marca.com by LW.
Tiger Woods wasted no time to practice his swing upon arrival at Augusta National Golf Club (ANGC) on Sunday ahead of the 2023 Masters Tournament this week.
Woods, 47, only spoke to ANGC chairman Fred Ridley after his range session before proceeding to play the second nine holes.
The five-time Masters champion arrived at the ANGC practice range Sunday around 15:00 ET and hit balls for nearly 30 minutes.
Questions regarding Woods participating in his 25th Masters were definitely answered when he showed up at Augusta.
Woods will be competing in his second Masters since returning from injury in last year’s edition of the tournament. His leg and back required surgery after a car accident, and he has not looked the same ever since.
Can Tiger Woods win the Masters?
It’s unlikely that Woods will be able to compete at the highest level, but if he does, nobody would be surprised.
Woods has previously made it clear that he will only be golfing in the majors and one or two other tournaments per year.
His previous PGA Tour appearance was February in the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, where he finished 45th.
Even if Woods fails to secure a top spot in the Masters, watching him compete through the pain is something quite beautiful to behold.
Tiger Woods to speak on Tuesday
“Here’s the deal: Like I told you guys last year, I’m not going to play any more than probably the majors and maybe a couple more,” Woods said at the Genesis Invitational. “That’s it, that’s all my body will allow me to do. My back the way it is, all the surgeries I had on my back, my leg the way it is, I just can’t. That’s just going to be my future.
“So my intent last year was to play in all four majors; I got three of the four. Hopefully this year I can get all four and maybe sprinkle in a few here and there. But that’s it for the rest of my career. I know that and I understand that. That’s just my reality.”
Depending on how the tournament goes for him, it could possibly be one of his final competitions.
The Masters, golf’s greatest tournament, is set to start Thursday, April 6. Woods is scheduled to speak with the press on Tuesday.
