Two Syrian soldiers injured in suspected Israeli strikes appeared on www.al-monitor.com by Al-Monitor: Independent, trusted coverage of the Middle East.

Two Syrian soldiers were injured in a suspected Israeli missile attack early Thursday morning.

Syria’s official news outlet SANA reported that the missiles hit unspecified targets outside of Damascus at 1:20 a.m. local time (6:20 p.m. ET Wednesday). The missiles were fired from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Syrian air defenses downed some of the missiles. Two Syrian soldiers were injured in addition to material damage, according to SANA.

Videos spread of social media purportedly showing the Israeli strikes.

Background: The Syrian government and UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights regularly report Israeli strikes against Syrian and Iranian military targets in the country, though Israel rarely confirms this. The following is a list of the suspected Israeli strikes on Syria in 2023.

  • Jan. 2: A strike on the Damascus airport resulted in its closure and the death of two soldiers.
  • Feb. 18: A strike on a state security building in Damascus killed 15.
  • March 7: The Aleppo airport was hit by airstrikes and rendered out of service. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the airport reopened on March 10.
  • March 12: A weapons depot was hit in central Syria, killing a Syrian officer and two pro-Iran fighters.
  • March 22: The area near the Aleppo airport was again hit by missiles, causing flights to be rerouted.

Know more: The suspected Israeli missile attack follows tit-for-tat strikes between the US military and Iran-backed forces in northeast Syria last week.
