Iran ordered the arrest of two women after a video showing them being attacked with yoghurt for not wearing hijabs was widely shared on social media platforms, The Telegraph reported. The incident occurred in Mashad. In the video, a mother and daughter can be seen at a shop counter.

A man then notices them without a hijab and then enters the shop, confronting them and dumping yoghurt on their heads. Arrest warrants were issued for the two women for “committing a forbidden act” by removing their hijabs, the report said. An arrest warrant has also been issued for the attacker “on charges of committing an insulting act and disturbance of order”, Iran’s judiciary Mizan Online website reported.
The attack comes as Iran’s judiciary chief threatened to prosecute women who flout the country’s strict rules on hijabs “without mercy”. Those “who commit such anomalous acts will be punished” and will be “prosecuted without mercy,” Mohseni Ejei said, without saying what the punishment would be.
Under the country’s strict dress code, women must cover their head and wear loose clothes- a rule that has been increasingly defied by women following mass protests over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police.
