Warren Arts gets ‘All Shook Up’ appeared on www.southernstandard.com by Dalton Perez.
The sounds and styles of Elvis Presley are hitting Warren Arts this weekend. The theater group is putting on a production of “All Shook Up,” a musical inspired by Elvis Presley that features hit songs from the King of Rock and adapted from the book by Joe Dipietro.
The show starts Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and will be on the Warren Arts stage again on Aug. 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. Matinée showings will be available on Aug. 6 and 20 at 2 p.m. as well. Tickets can be purchased at www.warrenarts.com for $15 or at the door of the theater at 5482 Manchester Hwy in Morrison.
Director of the production, Kennette Dixon, said the show has a story that will keep viewers guessing and highlights amazing vocal talent. The show faced many challenges leading up to show time, according to Dixon. “This show was originally scheduled for June but, due to an injury that required surgery for one of our cast members, it got postponed.”
Dixon said summer rehearsals are always difficult due to differing schedules and vacation times. “Doing rehearsals with people missing is always a challenge, but the reward has been watching it all come together in spite of the obstacles. This is truly one of the most talented group of singers.”
The musical is inspired by Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” and focuses on a small Midwestern town that gets thrown into a frenzy with the arrival of Chad. Chad is a good-looking motorcyclist who rides from town to town with a guitar on his back and a song in his heart. The town begins to come alive again with Chad’s influence after being repressed by the conservative mayor for so long. One night will change the town forever. The musical features classics such as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “Don’t Be Cruel.” If you like Elvis, Warren Arts guarantees you will love this comedy.
