Watch A Baby-Faced Luke Combs Play “She Got The Best Of Me” At Tin Roof Nine Years Ago appeared on www.whiskeyriff.com by Whiskey Riff.

Quite a throwback.

Of course, if you’re a fan of Luke Combs, then you’ve probably heard a lot about how he got his start in his college town of Boone, North Carolina playing local bars and gigs throughout western North Carolina.

We’ve shared plenty of old videos of him absolutely tearing it up at the local college bars, including my personal favorite (now called) Ale House where he crushed a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man,” but I’ve got another great throwback for you today.

Luke’s friend and fellow musician Adam Church, who played all of those early gigs with him in our little college town, shared a video over on TikTok of them playing “‘She Got the Best of Me” at the bar Tin Roof in Nashville nine years ago now.

It was back in 2014 at a writer’s round, and he shared the grainy, low-quality cell phone video (a sign of the times, indeed) with the caption:

“‘She Got the Best of Me’ played for one of the first times! 9 years ago… April 22nd, 2014. Nashville, TN.

Tin Roof Revival Writers Round… I played this round with buddies Luke Combs and Josh Phillips! Unforgettable memories.”

“She Got the Best of Me”, from Luke’s debut studio album This One’s for You, was his fourth consecutive number one single when it hit the top spot back in 2018.

And damn if he doesn’t sound just as good at Tin Roof playing a writer’s round nearly a decade ago as he does now…

It’s hard to argue with the fact that Luke was destined to be a country music superstar with a voice like that:

@adamchurchmusic Solid Gold right here! #lukecombs “She Got The Best Of Me” @Luke Combs one of the first times ever played! April 22, 2014, Nashville, TN Tin Roof Revival Writers Round…Luke, Josh Phillips, and Me! Luke wrote this song wlth @Channing Wilson and @Rob Snyder ? Give em some love! #lukecombs #adamchurch #shegotthebestofme #tinroof #nashville #countrymusic #fyp ? original sound – adamchurchmusic

Adam was also featured in the music video for Luke’s hit “Doin’ This,” where Luke also talks about their friendship and you see flashbacks to the two of them playing small bars and frat parties in Boone.

There’s also some more recent footage from Luke’s epic first ever stadium show this past year at Kidd Brewer Stadium in 2021, where Adam joined him on stage to play some songs.
