Who is Pope Francis' second-in-command and who will give the masses during Holy Week? appeared on www.marca.com by TBS.

Pope Francis was admitted to the Gemelli hospital in Rome on Wednesday. According to hospital sources, he arrived by ambulance with “heart problems”. According to Vatican sources, his audiences scheduled for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow have been cancelled.

His state is considered “not worrying”, but the Pontiff – vigilant and helpful, although visibly fatigued – was nevertheless subjected to various tests, including a CAT scan, and according to hospital sources is under constant monitoring in his tenth-floor room.

Who is Pope Francis I’s second-in-command

When a pope dies or resigns, the provisional government of the Catholic Church passes into the hands of the cardinal camarlengo, who must administer the goods of the Holy See, assisted by three assistant purpurates.

As a definition, the camarlengo could be defined as the cardinal who presides over the Apostolic Chamber; he has the function of administering the pontifical treasury, certifying the death of the Pope and convening the conclave to elect a successor. A position held since 14 February 2019 by Cardinal Kevin Farrell.

Who will give the masses at Easter?

The camarlengo is the figure who heads the Catholic Church when the see is vacant due to the death or resignation of a Pope, until a new Successor of Peter is elected in conclave. That is why the Holy Week masses would be led by Kevin Farrell.

Who is Kevin Farrell?

He was born in Dublin on 2 September 1947 and has served as a priest in Mexico and the United States, where he was auxiliary archbishop of Washington and in 2007 became bishop of Dallas.
