Vatican City lacks a hospital to care for newborns, as its residents are predominantly priests forbidden from marrying or becoming parents. Some of these children are born as a result of affairs involving priests and laywomen or nuns, while others are the tragic consequences of abuse or rape. Despite some high-profile cases, the majority remain out of the public eye.
