Will High on Life come to PlayStation? appeared on www.destructoid.com by Destructoid.

Will we ever see this ‘Xbox launch exclusive’ on a Sony console?

For better or for worse, High on Life has been one of the most talked about games of the past few weeks. Those who were already fans of Rick & Morty creator Justin Roiland’s work, it’s most of what they love from him, but to others, this bug that traps players in an alternate version of Applebee’s is easily the funniest thing to come out of the game. It’s me. I’m others.

Regardless of what you might think about the humor-twinged shooter, you might still have a single question looming in your mind: will High on Life ever come to PlayStation?

The short answer is that as of now, there aren’t any plans for developer Squanch Games to bring High on Life to other platforms, including PlayStation. With Sony dominating the former and current console generations, Xbox needs every edge it can get. Thankfully, High on Life was a success for Microsoft, as it has been the largest third-party Game Pass launch of all time, as well as the most successful single-player title ever on Game Pass. Part of me has to wonder how much of that included gamers who already had Game Pass playing out of curiosity garnered by High on Life‘s notorious reputation that sprung up even before it came out. I guess it doesn’t make a difference to Xbox as long as people are playing on their console.

All hope is not lost

Just because High on Life has been successful on Microsoft consoles doesn’t mean that there’s never a chance we could see it on other platforms. For one, Squanch Games isn’t a first-party studio that’s tied directly to Microsoft, so it’s not married to only releasing games on Xbox. This game in particular may have been an “Xbox launch exclusive,” but that doesn’t speak for the entirety of its future. Even Sony’s most successful titles like Spider-Man and The Last of Us eventually made their way to PC, and especially considering High on Life won’t likely pull that kind of profit, it would only benefit them to port the game to as many platforms as possible once their exclusivity has run its course.

Squanch Games has also released its previous games on a wide variety of consoles, such as High on Life‘s predecessor Trover Saves the Universe, and its release on PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Oculus Quest. Like we said, there aren’t any plans in the immediate future for High on Life‘s PlayStation debut, but there’s a good chance it’ll get a port in the next year or two.
