Marvel’s Spider-Man was one of the best exclusives of the PlayStation 4 generation, but will Spider-Man 2 ever come to PS4?
The time has finally come, and the long-awaited sequel to Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man title drops this week. But those who are yet to upgrade their hardware won’t be able to play it just yet.
Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 exclusive, meaning that it won’t be coming to PS4 on launch day. But is it possible that the game could arrive in the future?
Is Spider-Man 2 Coming to PS4?
No, Spider-Man 2 is most likely never coming to PS4, as Insomniac Games has confirmed the title is exclusive to PS5 consoles.
The confirmation arrived in Spider-Man 2’s reveal blog, in which the developer stated that the new game is already ‘pushing the capabilities of the console,’ referring to the PS5.
With that in mind, it’s hard to imagine how the team would be able to get it running on the now 10-year-old hardware of the PlayStation 4. However, miracles have been worked in the past.
Will Spider-Man 2 Ever Get a PS4 Release?
Consider that Hogwarts Legacy finally dropped on PS4 and Xbox One recently, despite its launch on current-gen consoles. However, unlike Spider-Man 2, the Harry Potter game was always confirmed to be launching on the older hardware.
If you’re not a PS5 owner, you do have one glimmer of hope when it comes to playing Spider-Man 2 that doesn’t result in you buying a new console. After all, it’s likely that Spider-Man 2 will get a PC port… eventually.
It likely will take a few years to drop, but Sony is clearly making a push to release more of its games on PC after an exclusivity period on PS5. Titles like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, The Last of Us Part 1, and the original Spider-Man and Miles Morales games have already made the jump to PC.
But Sony isn’t likely to release Spider-Man 2 on Steam for at least a year, to encourage players to buy a PS5.
