Wait a minute … is Zayn Malik dropping a fourth solo album?! The former One Direction singer surprised diehard fans everywhere after he announced the news in his Spotify bio in December 2022. Cleverly hidden in the paragraph, there is a sentence that says: “Zayn is currently working on his highly anticipated fourth studio album.”
Months later, it was announced that the singer had officially signed to Mercury Records to continue his solo music ventures. In a statement, the label teased that a new single is “arriving very soon” in summer 2023.
“As soon as ZAYN and I met, I knew we had to work together. I was blown away by the new music, but just as impressed by his vision, drive and spirit,” President of Mercury Records, Tyler Arnold, shared in a statement. “We’re honored he and his team have joined us at Mercury Records. We’ve got an incredible opportunity to tell the next chapter of his story together.”
The father of one, who shares daughter Khai with ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, has three previous albums — 2016’s Mind of Mine, 2018’s Icarus and 2021’s Nobody is Listening. Additionally, he released a solo project called Yellow Tape in September 2021, when he dropped a Dropbox link on Twitter, giving fans access to multiple rap songs including tracks “Believe Me” and “Grimez,” as well as another titled “Yellow Tape 47.”
On one notable track, “Believe Me,” it appeared as though Zayn opened up about his experience with fatherhood.
“Me, I’m feeling grown, since I had my daughter. Now I had to change my goals and become a father and I learned this on my own. This is the life I chose,” the X Factor alum rapped.
Zayn and Gigi welcomed Khai in September 2020. “Our baby girl is here, healthy and beautiful,” the “Pillowtalk” artist announced on Instagram at the time. “To try put into words how I am feeling right now would be an impossible task. The love I feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine and thankful for the life we will have together.”
Zayn and Gigi, affectionately referred to as “Zigi,” began dating in 2015. Following a few ups and downs in their relationship the couple split one final time in October 2021. It appears he’s been working on music since then.
