Zayn Malik shares rescheduled North American tour dates after Liam Payne's death appeared on www.nme.com by @nme.
Zayn Malik has shared the rescheduled dates for his first North American solo tour, after postponing due to the “heartbreaking” loss of Liam Payne.
Malik had been due to head to the States this month for his first ever run of solo headline shows in the country, in support of his fourth studio album ‘Room Under The Stairs’, which came out in May.
However, in the light of the tragic death of his former One Direction bandmate on October 16 at the age of 31, Malik made the decision to postpone the dates.
Now, the ‘Stairway To The Sky’ tour has been rescheduled for January, with the seven dates kicking off at Washington, DC’s The Anthem on January 21. Shows in New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas will follow, before the tour wraps up in San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on February 3. Tickets for the sold out shows remain valid for the new dates.
Zayn Malik will play:
JANUARY 2025
21 – Washington, DC, The Anthem
24 – New York, Hammerstein Ballroom
25 – New York, Hammerstein Ballroom
28 – Los Angeles, Shrine Expo Hall
29 – Los Angeles, Shrine Expo Hall
FEBRUARY 2025
1 – Las Vegas, The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan
3 – San Francisco, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
Malik is also set to perform across the UK next month, with shows in Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, London, Wolverhampton and Newcastle between November 20 and December 3. Those dates remain unaffected.
The singer played his first ever solo show in London in May. After launching his solo career in 2016, he cancelled what was due to be his debut appearance in June that year, citing “the worst anxiety of my career”.
Paying tribute to Payne in the days following his death, Malik shared a joint statement alongside surviving One Direction members Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles, where they expressed their devastation, and that they would need time “to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.”
A portion of Malik individual’s tribute reads: “Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there are so many more conversations for us to have in our lives.”
In other news, Payne was found to have donated thousands of pounds to various GoFundMe pages in the month before his death.
A petition has also been launched calling for a new law to safeguard the mental wellbeing of artists in the music industry, in light of the Payne tragedy.
