Zayn Malik posted a video on social media that seems to be a teaser for an upcoming album, along with changing his profile picture and going live on Instagram
On Tuesday night, Malik shared a teaser on Instagram for his upcoming album. He also changed his profile picture, and went live on Instagram for around 40 seconds, playing a snippet of his new music in the background.
The “Pillowtalk” singer broke the internet with this unexpected announcement, stirring major excitement in fans around the world. Malik posted a 45-second-long video on his Twitter and Instagram accounts, where he spoke about what the album and music meant to him when he was writing it. Keep in mind that we have not gotten an album announcement before this video, so this is a huge shock and win, for fans who have been patiently waiting for him to come out with new music.
Zayn included no caption with his Instagram post, which in less than 24 hours has over 1.3 million likes and 27 thousand comments from fans freaking out and basking in the exciting news. In the video, he talks about his creative process and why he decided to write the music himself.
The singer states, “The intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being – my ambitions, my fears, and for them to have a connection with that.”
He also changed his profile picture across all social media platforms, which is a telltale sign that an artist has new music coming. Then, he decided to go live on Instagram for about 40 seconds to tease fans. The live took place inside a studio, and he casually streamed a snippet of his new music in the background. The live reached about 90 thousand viewers at once.

It appears that new music has been in the works for a couple of years now. After relocating from Los Angeles to Pennsylvania to be with his ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid and their three-year-old daughter Khai, Malik has been out of the public eye for almost six years. The last time he was spotted at a major event was in 2018 when he sat in the front row at a Tom Ford runway show during New York Fashion Week. However, he shocked everyone when he made a surprising appearance at Paris Fashion Week in January of this year.
Zayn has been gradually reclaiming his place in the public eye. Last summer he made an exciting appearance on the Call Her Daddy Podcast, hosted by Alex Cooper. During the podcast, he opened up about his experience in One Direction, his journey towards fatherhood, life before fame, his struggles with mental health, and his decision to leave the band in 2015.
Following his split from One Direction in 2015, he released three solo albums including Mind of Mine (2016), Icarus Falls (2018), and Nobody is Listening (2021). His immense talent shows throughout all of his projects. Outside of his albums, he has collaborated on songs with other artists like Taylor Swift in “I Don’t Want to Live Forever” for the film Fifty Shades Darker in 2017, and “A Whole New World” for Aladdin in 2019 with Zhavia Ward.
It’s safe to say fans are taking over social media to share their excitement for the announcement. One theory some fans have is that Zayn will also release a documentary.

In addition to releasing new music, he is also working on an animated film called 10 Lives about a cat who loses his ninth life. He will be voicing one of the characters in the film along with actress Simone Ashley (Bridgerton) and comedian Mo Gilligan. You can watch the trailer below to see a sneak peak.
