In the next couple of weeks, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now will merge, creating a new type of PlayStation Plus service with a tiered subscription model. The first tier, PlayStation Plus Essential, functions exactly how the PS Plus of today works with free monthly games, discounts, cloud storage and online multiplayer access. The second tier, Extra, throws in a catalog of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games. The third tier, Premium, gives subscribers cloud streaming access for original PlayStation, PS2, PSP and PS4 games, similar to what was offered through PlayStation Now.
Sony hasn’t officially announced what games these will be yet, but it seems that a handful of them have been leaked. Spotted by Reddit user, the_andshrew, Tekken 2, Worms Armaggedon, Worms World Party and Mr. Driller for the original PlayStation along with Ridge Racer 2 for PSP have appeared on the PSN backend. It’s believed these games will be offered through PS Plus Premium.
With the new PlayStation Plus due to go live on May 23 in most of Asia, it’s likely Sony will soon unveil the full list of games offered in PS Plus Premium. The PS Plus refresh isn’t expected to go live in North America until around June 13, 2022, followed by Europe on June 22, 2022.
As a reminder, the Premium tier will cost $17.99 a month, $49.99 for three months or $119.99 for the year. This will include the 340 classic games and around 400 PS4 and PS5 games that are also included in the slightly less expensive Extra tier. As Sony hasn’t officially announced the entire list of games, take this leak with a grain of salt.
As we get close to the new PS Plus launch date, we should start to see more of these leaks as Sony continues to update the PSN backend. What PlayStation Classics are you hoping to see offered through the new PS Plus service?
