Volodymyr Zelensky vows retaliation after Russia targets Kherson with shelling appeared on thehill.com by Sarah Fortinsky.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday vowed retaliation after Russia attacked the Kherson region of Ukraine with shelling, killing at least seven people and wounding others.
“Everywhere our warriors retaliate against the occupiers’ terror. There is not a single day when Russian evil does not get our completely fair retaliation,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement Sunday.
“Every occupier destroyed, every piece of Russian equipment burned, fire instead of their headquarters and warehouses, the very eloquent smoke on Kerch bridge and more – all this proves that we will not leave any of Russia’s crimes unanswered,” Volodymyr Zelensky added.
The Ukrainian leader said that as of 6 p.m. local time Sunday, there had been 17 reports of shelling in the Kherson region. Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia used artillery to attack the village of Shyroka Balka, killing five people — including a mother, her 22-day-old daughter and her 12-year-old son. Two men also died after the village of Stanislav was shelled, according to Ukraine.
Ukraine launched its long-anticipated counteroffensive against Russia in early June and has made incremental progress since, notably in the south. Russia, meanwhile, has launched a new offensive in the eastern Luhansk region, which appears to be smaller in scope than Moscow’s winter offensive.
Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday thanked Ukrainian soldiers, paratroopers and medical workers, saying in his statement, “Every time we have something to thank our warriors for, Ukraine becomes closer to justice, closer to victory. And Russian murderers on our land become closer to destruction.”
“This is the only way we can create the conditions for the whole of Ukraine to become free and safe again,” Volodymyr Zelensky added. “Russian terrorists must feel only one thing: they will be destroyed.”
